Chapter 31

More hands reached out, pulling on Lucy's elbows and Jay's clothes.

Flashes began to permeate the air like lightning clouds.

Screams, in that certain high pitched tone only teenage girls can muster, rang in their ears.

The back of the crowd pushed so forcefully that people nearest Lucy and Jay were crushed into their bodies. Lucy's eyes landed inches from the mustached man's, and they were extraordinarily hostile. Jay caught a glimpse of his manager standing on a ladder in the distance, smirking.

He grabbed Lucy's waist, and cradled her into his shoulder.

He ducked his head.

He bowled through several rows of screamers and fled, with Lucy under his wing.

Steps.

There were steps.

Dark black steps.

Into a children's puppet show theater stage.

They arrived.
