It happened slow.
The Ballmans finally asked enough questions of the interloper that they felt comfortable letting he and Lucy stroll around the room out of earshot. This room had many partitions, and the Ballmans scattered, so one was almost always visible from anywhere, thus keeping a discreet eye on Lucy.
They needn't have worried. There were eyes on her everywhere, two of which belonged to new acquaintance and super protective Jay, who was completely enamored. And yet, there were several pairs of eyes on him, as well.
Lucy always felt as though people in Texas looked at her strangely; she didn't fit in.
And here was the handsome newbie who didn't fit in, either. Wearing a gray newsboy cap and decidedly chic clothing, he was the anti-cowboy among cowboys.
